“We’re trying to teach our children to be good, decent human beings. Caring beings. It starts at home—it starts with caring for your beloved stuffie toy, for your mom, for your dad, for your granny, for your family, for your community. How are we supposed to teach our children about bigger world problems if they don’t understand what it means to care for something?”

A few months ago, I was approached by Kirkus Magazine informing me that Hop Lola Hop was selected by its editors for the Kirkus end of year “Indies Worth Discovering booklist”.

Needless to say, I was thrilled.

It was also the perfect excuse to sit down with Kirkus reporter Alana Joli Abbott to discuss the Hop Lola Hop series in more detail.

I really enjoyed the interview. We laughed, we compared some familiar toy misplacement situations andlso spoke at length about some of the underlying themes the series is trying to highlight in a gentle way.

Hop Lola Hop at the Emirates LitFest

Hop Lola Hop - the adventures of a missing toy bunny - Lola - has been turned into a fun and interactive theatrical performance fit for little story lovers and their own cuddly toys.

Directed by Gregory Lunn, the cast consists of Emma Oberberg, Tabata Alejandra Lopez Ulloa, and Ellie Pinkerton as Lola, who was the female lead in the Courtyard’s summer performance of David Mamet’s ‘Oleanna’. Emma Oberberg is Kathy's daughter whose own toy rabbit was what inspired Kathy to create Lola's adventures.

'When I began writing Lola's story, I never imagined our little bunny would one day hop on stage. It was an incredible experience as we got to entertain children in an entirely different way.
